My bathroom remodel is done!!! This may have been the longest bathroom remodel ever lol. But is finally done and it’s beyond what I have dreamt of. We have waited a long time for this remodel, this bathroom was leaking since we moved in. We have been showering in the girls bathroom for four years now. So having the main bathroom finally usable is such a relief!
The Before
Now, back to the remodel! As always, I like to start with the before. So here it is, the leaking, all brown, with the huge useless whirpool bathtub. The bathtub basically took the whole bathroom.
I knew this was the first thing to go. The shower area was so small. We never actually used since it was leaking. But it was pretty small, my husband would definitely be squeezed in there. These were definitely the biggest problem areas.
The sink area was ok, we didn’t actually change the location, and kept the same sink size. My husband and father in law did all the demoing, everything went. After the bathroom was cleared up, my father in law fixed our leak and rerouted all the plumbing to the new place. We moved the tub to a new location to accommodate the bigger shower.
White Marble Bathroom Floors
The tile is one of the most important decisions for the overall design of your bathroom. For our main bathroom I wanted to be a bright, light space. I chose Thassos marble for the whole bathroom.
The reason I selected the Thassos white marble floors is because I really liked the warm tones and little variance. Since marble is a natural stone, it can vary drastically from box to box. I learned that the hard way when we did the girls bathroom. We order the tile online, when the boxed arrived there was a huge difference from box to box, with some pretty dark and some a lot whiter.
White Marble Bathroom Shower
The shower was the only request from my husband, he wanted the biggest shower possible! And let me tell you, he got it! The new shower is 55 X 55, it’s gigantic.
When I first saw with just the tile it didn’t look so big, but once the shower glass was installed, the shower looks really nice and big. We can for sure fit four people there (not that we will!!).
We choose the brass shower fixtures and brass hardware for the shower glass. If you have kids, please make sure that you get one if these handheld attachments for your shower!! It’s so much easier to just hose them down really quickly on days when we are running late and don’t have time for a long bath.
The shower glass was done by a local company. It came out beautiful and keeps the shower area nice and warm when we take a shower.
For the shower walls I used the same Thassos tile I used on my floors, but on the 6×12 size. I’m so in love with this tile! The white but warm color is exactly what I wanted.
The larger scale of the tile makes this space feel even larger. On the shower floor, I choose the Nova Dolomite Brass Polished Mosaic tile, a gorgeous marble tile with gold accents. Isn’t this the most beautiful tile ever? We used the same tile on our shower niche. ***UPDATE*** Please do not use this tile in the shower floor. After leaving with it for a while, the gold dots do tarnish with the water. I must have missed where it said it was not for floors. As beautiful as it is, I would not recommend for shower floor.
I’m really happy with how the shower came out, it’s beautiful and so spacious. The shower wall is super easy to clean. Now, the shower floor takes a bit more time. This is something to consider if you are doing mosaic on the shower floor. The smaller the tile, the more grout to clean.
I’m still looking for the right drapes/shades for the bathroom. My hubby really wants shades that open on the top too so we can have some natural light but still have privacy. I’m thinking that the space really need some softness, so I might be adding some drapery in the near future. I also need some art work and new towels! Everything with time, right?
The last thing we added, which was a splurge for us, was the floor heating system. It makes a huge difference now in the winter time to have heated floors! We love it! I will write a whole blog post on the heating system and more on the construction cost.
